Sour Gas
Digester gas (or "sour gas") is a subset biogas as created through anaerobic digestion or fermentation of biodegradable materials. Feedstock can include animal manure, sewage sludge, green waste or energy crops. Just about any waste with a high biological oxygen demand will work as anaerobic digester feedstock. Regardless of source or digestion process, the ultimate goal is a methane and carbon dioxide rich biogas suitable for energy production. Depending on feedstock and gas processing, digester gases have some of the same problems as landfill gas in that different impurity levels cause premature wear on the spark plugs as well as other engine components (see Landfill Gas Deposits for more info). In the case of digester gas, common problems such as high hydrogen sulfide content require increased monitoring and maintenance to all components including spark plugs. |
