Preheating
During preheating the current initially flows via the connecting bolts and the control coil to the heating coil, which quickly heats up and causes the tip of the rod (pencil) to glow. The tip of the pencil heats up at different rates depending on the engine type. This means the temperature of the control coil already heated by the current is additionally increased. As a result, its electrical resistance increases, and the current is reduced so that the glow pencil cannot be damaged. |
