Core Nose Tracking
Core Nose Tracking is when the spark does not jump the gap from the center to ground electrode, but rather runs from the center electrode along the ceramic insulator up inside the plug to ultimately ground out where the ceramic insulator meets the outer metal shell. Evidence of this can be seen by ignition marks etched in the ceramic insulator from the center electrode disappearing back into the core of the plug. This can be caused by accumulated deposits at the firing end, too lean an air/fuel ratio, too wide a gap, or improper timing for cylinder pressure. |
